Mental Health Awareness

Mental Health Awareness is something that we should seek to acknowledge everyday within ourselves when we feel those uncomfortable feelings and emotions trying to get our attention.

Something that has been greatly impacted even more so with  the events of the past 4 years.

Like anything in life, consistency is key for getting results. Being consistent with ourselves and our own self-care. Not getting distracted, or shutting ourselves down.

So, I'm not adverse to having a focus at certain times of the year,  that can act as a little reminder to help us get back on track.

In the US, May is Mental Health Awareness month and the UK, next week, 13th-19th May, is Mental Health Awareness week.

Last year's focus was on anxiety and something that continues to be at an all time high for many.

Anxiety is one of the more uncomfortable spectrums of emotions we experience and when it gets out of control, can cause bigger mental health issues and stop us moving forward in our life.

Aside from life's many challenges and transitions we have to navigate, the past four years has been particularly challenging and has had a huge impact on people's mental health.

Whether you're consciously on your spiritual journey and doing the inner work, or just trying to get through the tough times we're in, we are all affected.

And we are all connected.

Whenever you might be struggling, it's important to remember that you're not alone.

Remember you are not your anxiety, try not to get attached to the emotion or feeling. Practice being the observer, allowing yourself to be seen and heard, so it can move through you with compassion and love.

To help assist, I have a Soothing Anxiety Meditation on Insight Timer and wanted to share this beautiful feedback I've had from a lady that listened and how it helped to lower her blood pressure..

Dear Paula, I listened to your meditation and I liked it very much for various reasons: first is to realise how important is not to condemn ourselves if we feel anxious but to accept and love oneself. However, the most surprising proof of how good this meditation  was the fact that I decided to measure my blood pressure whilst listening. I usually get anxious when measuring but this time the blood pressure went so low that showed number that I haven't seen before.  Thank you for sharing.

In the above meditation, we acknowledge the 'anxious me's', but here's a reminder for you to connect with yourself and acknowledge anxious you, or whatever other emotion you might be feeling.

Use the words that are right for you and say them out loud with a hand on your heart.

“Hello anxious me” or “hello me that feels anxious”

“I'm sorry me, you're feeling anxious”

“I see you, I feel you, I hear you anxious me”

 “I've got you anxious me”

 “I love you, anxious me”

This year's theme for Mental Health Awareness is Movement: Moving for our Mental Health

Moving the body is a great way to release endorphins, the feel good/happy hormones that lower our stress levels, improve our mood and enhance our overall sense of well-being.

Movement also helps to release stuck and stagnant energy that we're holding in our body and cells.

Whether you get out for a gentle walk in nature, choose a form of exercise you enjoy, or put on your favourite track and dance! There's many enjoyable ways we can move our body.

🧡

Practice listening to your body and giving yourself exactly what you need.

And remember…..YOU are loved.
