Safe to Breathe
Wow, today is the last day of September and what a whirlwind that was!
It feels like in the blink of an eye, it came and went!
And yet another month where so much has shifted yet again.
Like many others, it took me into deeper layers of release and the waves have felt very challenging.
The breakdown, before the breakthrough!
That said, September has also been a milestone month that is a cause for celebration. September has been the month that I finally said goodbye to my steroid inhaler that I've been taking since I was 13. Nearly 40 years!
I mentioned in a previous newsletter that I had set the intention to come off it, which proceeded to bring up more experiences from the past where I had held my breath in fear.
With the "I love You, Me' method I was able to acknowledge and bring love to those past parts of me that didn't feel safe, so they could breathe again.
It brought me deeper awareness of just how long I'd been in survival, not feeling safe to take up space.
Our breath is our life force, and yet we can be so unaware of just how much we unconsciously restrict it.
How much we don't trust our life force, our body, the world, ourselves.
I realised my inhaler was my crutch and how I wasn't fully trusting and allowing myself to take charge and fully breathe without it. I'd been on it for so long.
As Louise Hay would affirm, “ It is safe for me to take charge of my own life. I choose to be FREE”.
It's never too late for anything with the right belief and mindset.
Now of course, we all have to do what is right for us and seek any appropriate advice we may feel is needed. This wasn't a case of just deciding and waving a magic wand, it did require further inner work and healing around the symptom and my breath. I also did a phase down of the dose, before dropping it fully.
Anything is possible when we TRUST and BELIEVE it so.
But, we have to be prepared to put in the work and take the steps.
We have to get comfortable with the uncomfortable.
Although ironically, we do that automatically throughout our lives anyway, so of course we can do it!

Even if you don't have asthma, do you need to bring in greater mindfulness around your own BREATH?
Many of us go through our day in unconscious survival mode, stressed and anxious. When we're in this state, we don't realise how shallow our breathing can be.
If you're feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed right now, try to take some mindful moments throughout the day where you bring your awareness to how you're breathing.
Notice if you're holding your breath?
Is it shallow?
Is it laboured?
Try these little exercises…
When we inhale, we go into a sympathetic nervous system state and on the exhale, we go into a parasympathetic state (rest and digest).
When we make our exhale longer than our inhale, it shows we can start to regulate our nervous system to a calmer state.
Make the exhale twice as long as the inhale and try for at least 30 seconds.
Try breathing in for 4, hold for 7(or whatever you can manage 4-7) and breath out for 8
Breath work visualisation – breathing out longer than the inhale as above.
Focus breathing into the heart (maybe you'd like to breathe in a colour, like a loving pink) Breathe in with the intention of connecting to your heart and giving yourself permission to relax and soften, to slow your breathing and heart rate.
🧡
This eclipse window has been very challenging, so remember to keep being patient, kind and compassionate with yourself.
Honouring whatever you need.
Rest when you need to rest.
Take timeout to acknowledge just how far you've come and how much you've grown. Reflect on anything that you'd still like to release or focus on going forward.
